IGNI — Julian Kingma

IGNI

By Julian Kingma

IGNI documents the raw, demanding first year of one of Australia’s most ambitious young chefs, Aaron Turner, as he builds a new restaurant from the ground up.
Beginning with the closure of Turner’s former restaurant, Loam, Julian Kingma followed Aaron and his team through the creation and opening of IGNI, capturing the successes, setbacks, long hours and relentless work behind the restaurant.
Shot on large-format film and Polaroid, Julian’s photography offers an intimate, unfiltered view of life behind the kitchen doors. Moving between fly-on-the-wall moments, portraits and food photography, the work strips away the polished image often associated with the restaurant world to reveal the passion, pressure and sacrifice beneath it.
Published by Hardie Grant, IGNI became a sell-out success and received the Best Visual Impact award at the New York Book Fair.
